Hoggboy @ Leeds Festival 2002

By Suzanne Hutchinson

Hoggboy have brought their mates along from Sheffield for this show taking in some of their recent releases. There's gesticulation of the "rawk" devil horns to and from the band throughout and these guys are enjoying every minute of it. Resplendent in their matching leather jackets with lead singer Tom Hogg poses and points a la Jarvis - every inch the star. New single 'Upside down' starts with tribal-like drums but quickly moves on in to catchy guitar riff territory. The band is so rock n' roll you expect them to break in to 'Great Balls of Fire' at any moment. There's a dedication to the mothers of those in the audience for 'Urgh!!!' Hope Tom doesn't mean anything by that murderous chorus. Best song of the set has to be previous release 'Shouldn't Let the Side Down' with its rock n'roll vibe. After debut single 'So Young', we're left with the instrumental rock riot of 'You Suck'. If these guys can sty the distance they're going to be pig...!
