The Offspring @ Leeds Festival 2002

By Suzanne Hutchinson

The elder statesmen of tuneful pop rawk showed the kids how to do it all over again as the sun set over Temple Newsuam on the first day. The Offspring are masters at catchy tunes and they know it. Lead singer Dexter got things off on friendly terms by stating "Leeds is the best place to play in the world". Hmm, nothing like getting the crowd onside. With that cleared up, the band partied through a set made up of unashamed crowd pleasing faves. 'Come Out and Play' got the massive crowd moshing. 'Gotta Get Away' was another highlight while 'Why Don't You Get A Job' appealed to the slacker in everyone. They cranked it up to the max for 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy' and 'Self Esteem'. The Offspring left the crowd in no doubt that the next generation of pop-rock bands can learn lessons from their forefathers.
