Something Corporate @ Cockpit

By Tom Macdonald

Openers Kenosha play to around 10 people due to an admissions cock-up tonight, and therefore have a hard job ahead. Their early Weezer sound does keep the 'crowd' interested, but they simply do their job and get out.

Fresh from supporting New Found Glory all over Europe, Something Corporate threatened not to play if under-18s weren't allowed in. They were, and so the crowd swelled to a grand total of about 30. To their credit, though, they made the best of the situation, all five members going for it just like any other gig, especially frontman Andrew McMahon, who uses his piano to the full (as do a few members of the crowd). What sets them apart from other Drive-Thru bands, however, is that these guys are genuinely exciting. More pop than most, they have some damn catchy tunes, especially crowd-pleasers 'Straw Dog' and 'If You C Jordan', the piano adding a Ben Folds influence to their poppy punk sound. A triumph over adversity, and possibly one of the last times the band will play to such a small audience.
