Ladytron @ LMUSU
By Dave Procter
My word, there is heap plenty fashionista on display this evening, none more so in opening band Black Wire. Angular, cock-eyed Parva lite hairdos? Check. Eldritch spookfest vocal action? Check. Electronica and fuzzed up guitar/bass and falling overness? Yes indeed. An interesting start to proceedings. Pink Grease are the most bizarre collection of rag bag motherfuckers I have ever seen since the Spice Girls last polluted our minds. With 3 totally uncomfortable on stage backing singers of all shapes and sizes, to the bloke with a huge wibbly wobbly board that resembles a huge stylophone (ask your dad, non Rolf Harris fans) crossed with a Moog/traffic light simulator. And that's not half of it. Sorry? You require information on the music played? Why? Is this not enough already? Ladytron have enhanced the band to a 6 piece now, with added Descartes' brothers - Rene on bass and synths, and Redcar on drums. "Blue Jeans" and "He Took Her To A Movie" are beautiful tales of lesbianism, that make you realise Ladytron are not only Hawkwind minus guitars plus Human League's less poppy and more obscure brother, but also the Kraftwerk it's ok to want to fuck. These are fine things indeed. Finishing the set with underage boy sex classic "17" creates almost panic in the room. If the fashionistas could let themselves do something so uncool...
