Thirteen:13 @ Leeds Festival 2001

By Andy Roberts

Polished melodic indie rock that is not unpleasant but nowt to go mad for. Okay, soaring immaculate vocals from Ben Etchells and some interesting moments lifted from their debut LP 'Deny Everything' - but there's nothing new here. Sure 'Truth Hurts' is a slow building epic. It's just that you get the feeling that this is just standard indie-by-numbers played out by competent-enough musicians signed to a major label who boast a drummer ex-of Kula Shaker amongst their ranks. Granted, the band content with technical difficulties admirably and Etchells hopes we'll catch them again to see them unhindered; let's just hope that next time there's something slightly more unique on offer.
