The Tennessee Traincrash @ Royal Park Cellars
By Dave SugdenThe irony is lost when the Traincrash (male) vocalist jokingly asks if his woolly hat makes him look like Nickelback, as his delivery smacks, quite sadly, of grunge wannabe throughout. Well, all the way that is until the rather excellent closer Slut Fuck Fight. It matters little though; the drummer is fantastic and the intro to the proceedings sets the scene splendidly. Add to this some nu-wave cool (female) vocals - some have said a la Blondie - foot stomping, repetitive guitar riffs and quick fire guitars elsewhere and you have some raw rock'n'roll with an underground riot (grrrl? hmmm, not quite) sound that suits the Cellars well. There's even a Born to be Wild moment. Slut Fuck Fight is the star song, but we almost didn't get that far; the opportunity to walk off in a rock star fit (when the snare broke) was left wanting for another day, a bigger stage, yes sir, you know you will. Male vocalist vs. female vocalist, full of angst and great drumming/guitars.
