The Libertines @ Cockpit

By Dave Procter

Ambition is lacking and lazyitis seems to be rife in Liverpool at the minute, as the latest Coral - lite band tortures my ears. Has all hope gone from what was such a vibrant musical scene? It appears so. Arse in gear, please. I am pleased to report that The Libertines are as frisky as they were on Saturday on The Wirral. Starting with a blistering "Horrorshow", the stage is set for action. Pete is still "ill" according to replacement guitarist Nick, who does a top job, but will return soon. Carlos seems to be having fun at any rate, and bass boy does his best hollow cheeked pissed off look. A bit of the between front men tension is obviously missing, but the crowd is going mental anyroad. New songs seem to last a minute tops, all singles go down a storm and the 2 encores of "What A Waster" and "I Get Along" (including the biggest "fuck em" I've heard for a while), are just magic. 1 gripe to report - t-shirts at 18 and 20 quid, naughty boys. Come back soon, with Pete.
