Interpol @ Leeds Festival 2003

By Helena Gee

The first time I saw Interpol, I was blown away completely. I was hooked. Their astounding album "Turn On The Bright Lights" is one of the best in my collection. Today, there is a reasonable turn out, but it seems like they are the kind of band you either love or hate. There are those who cherish every sound and vibration, who respond to the feeling that shines through songs like "Untitled" and "Hands Away" and there are those who would enjoy their songs more if they were just a little bit shorter. The feeling I got was that some people just got bored. More upbeat tracks such as "Say Hello To The Angels" set the crowd alight, and "The Specialist" (not featured on the album) is utter genius. I thought it was fantastic, but in festival surroundings it just may have been a bit too heavy for some. Like trying to read a novel in your tent or something.
