Being 747 @ The Vine

By Dave Procter

The latest of an intriguing eclectic mix of bands provided by the savvy Transmission team at The Vine sees The Black Helicopters take off on a tour of instrument butchery, covering the ear shredding big riffage of garage rock, via Sonic Youth, through to Lemmy era Hawkwind space drone. Pigging great. At the other end of the scale, we have MJ Hibbert's tales of love, heartbreak and what life will be when I'm in power early 80s Red Wedge free market bashing pop nous. I know what you're thinking, there's so much of this around these days...

Personally, I think tonight's set by Being 747 (located sound wise between the other 2 bands) is the best they've done, with the most complete, representative collection of songs so far. From opener "The Girl Who Fell Asleep" to closer "The One We Did Last Monday", foot stamping Dave Cooke leads his troop of inbred carrot-munching multi-talents to the edge of pop perfection, taking in the likes of "Pressure To Perform", and still making time for darker moments such as "Advice From The Golden Couple" and "DIY Prescriptions", a Fall-esque treat that Cookie knew I'd like. There is an album out soon on Wrath Records - I suggest a crafty purchase for a special Xmas treat.
