Skiffle-Prog-Pop Merchants Pedalling Crooked Stories, Dark Nursery Rhymes and Wicked Tales Of Life In A City Ablaze. 'Rather Marvelous' said the Yorkshire Evening Post, 'Such an Odd-Band' said a man at our last swingin' gig. www.SilverlodeOnline.co.uk
Skiffle-Prog-Pop merchants from Leeds, Silverlode, pedal a unique brand of alternative rock music which radiates dynamic textures of light and shade, brimming with imaginings of wild fancy. Their crooked stories, dark nursery rhymes and wicked tales of a skewed reality take hold over ladies, gentlemen, children and beasts.
'Silverlode' took to life as a song-writing project in 2001, locked away inside their haunted studio in an old chapel on the outskirts of Leeds. They documented their dreams on two acoustic-based full-length CDs: the transient and haunting 'As It Always Has Been' (2003) and the bolder acoustic-rock of 'The Big Nothing' (2005).
The opportunity to open up The Bretton Hall Music Festival in April 2005 was a chance not to be missed, and it was from this point that the mighty Silverlode live act took shape. Rob, Gaz, Scott and Dave have pushed themselves forward, forming a gang-of-four mentality, making them an unstoppable force. Their adventures have taken them far and wide performing over seventy shows in a short space of time, including prestigious performances at the Leeds City Varieties, Leeds University and The Napton Festival in Leamington Spa. They have shared stages with the likes of Chris Stills, Clayhill, The Holloways, The Pigeon Detectives, Anechoic, Buen Chico, Girlschool and Danbert Nobacon of Chumbawamba fame.
The band's present state of mind and new found confidence is captured on 'Ten Tales of Looming Darkness' (2007). Eighteen months in the making, the album has a core theme of directionless youth, albeit through a warped and distorted looking glass. The introductory track, Theatre, sets the scene for the album in a forlorn and secret show-house of Victorian design. Hereafter each of the ten tales is presented to the audience using a wide variety of shapes and sounds, whose haunting vocals tell of dark tales of life in a city ablaze.
