John Parkes
solo acoustic
Songwriter / singer John Parkes previously fronted indie stalwarts (and night time Radio One favourites) Fuzzbird and Greenhouse as well as touring Europe with earlier bands. He also worked for the Wedding Present (including guest spots on TV, encores and Peel sessions) for a number of years.
Having always written on acoustic guitar (probably around 200 songs in all), the move to solo playing isn't such a great one. Though constantly finding being in a band a pain in the arse, John now plays with Leeds based Whole Sky Monitor, which only goes to show.
Lyrical obsessions include love, lust, longing, religion, bits of politics, self examination, the meaning of life, TV, general angst and touches of black humour. He describes his acoustic style as 'strumming with bits added' though he also does picky bits.
He is currently also working on a debut album, recording in sunny Castleford ('viva Cas-Vegas') and due to be released in 2004.
