Kaiser Chiefs @ Joseph's Well

By Kate Wilkinson

A happy version of indie music, or a depressed version of The Wannadies, either way, Kaiser Chiefs impressed. Highlights were found in "The Modern Way", a track late on in their set, one full of contemplative and engrossing lyrics, nothing lightweight from these guys. Emanating from the stage was a sound which could be described as spirited or stirring, despite the lack of movement from band members. Appearances can be deceiving mind. The set closes with a fast fuck-you-vocally track intense with a potent message of disenchantment permeating from the band. Take a less offensive sounding Johnny Rotten, with the musical talents of Madness going via Blur and maybe even Dodgy and the ideologies of the Strokes and you get the mighty mighty Kaiser Chiefs.
