Cherryfalls: For All My Sins

A clear, heart-breaking guitar line across a damped guitar rhythm track, Joe McAdam's pure soaring voice and heartbreak on the agenda. A name like Cherryfalls and a deep love of comforting romance. The standard fare of favourite tunes since the birth of the effects pedal. You know exactly where you are and what you've bought into. Cherryfalls' single does it better than most.

C/w (as they used to type) "Do it Yourself" starts with a pathetic studio out take that says "Hey, we're just ordinary lads, y' know." But the bridge into nostalgic yearning is same again same again. Long notes, empty words, the beach in the video, the moon and stars, the Chris Martin shucks.

"Life" is a weak song played and produced carelessly. One in a million - all the same, and currently being played at acoustic nights across the land.

I think this is cynical industry slop. It isn't - the guys in the band are as conservative and unaware of the need for real new music as their intended audience. It's not their fault. A label with the heritage of Island shouldn't be playing follow-my-leader in a rapidly evaporating market.
