It's seems that the mighty Leeds Music Scene has grown some legs and spawned another Critic in the form of a giant ego known as Simon Glacken.
While the words aren't anything to run around shouting about they are still better than Drowned In Sound, a zine Simon would obviously desperately love to write for. Only just though. Instead of the crap London-centric scenesterism we have crap Northern bitterness showing that in the world of piss poor online writing both north and south have equal opportunity to write like a retarded clone of Paul Lester whilst wanking themselves numb over a picture of themselves.
The review consists of a sort of indie zine writing that's worded in a snidey, bitchy way to prevent anyone from getting too excited. The sentences are mostly rubbish and, sadly, don't detract attention away from the review, which would probably benefit from a new author at the helm.
Best part is the end which comes across as a mix of a finale and a conclusion. The quirky spaces towards the end do bring a smile to your face but I'm not sure whether that's because I like the spacebar or because the review was nearly finished.
Fans of Sean or Adie DiS will probably enjoy this review. I doubt anyone else will.

So we can assume you're in the Four Mary's then?
Nothing wrong with the reviewfrom where I'm sat. It gave an account of Simon's opinion of the record. Which is precisely what a review should do.
Even if you're not in the band and just a friend or fan your comments do them more harm than any review.

I am neither. I am just someone who doesn't enjoy reading rather pisspoor 'writing'. Simon launched into personal abuse....which is something a reviewer should NEVER do.
Don't always assume that when someone doesn't think a review is well written that they are in the band or in someway related to them.
-someone who writes for a magazine that actually gets printed on real paper.

Hi Three Alex. This website is a pretty open sort of place from the inside. If you're not happy with the quality of writing you can get in touch quite easily with the people who generally run it and start up writing yourself - thus improving the quality of journalism (in your opinion).
Which magazines are you refering to with the 'real paper' comment just out of interest?

I write for a scottish magazine called 'Is This Music?' - www.isthismusic.com is the online home. People should check it out.

Mention of the Scaras on the front page of Is This Music?, but I got to dash - will check it out when I return
