Shatner
Guitar based pop music with its roots in late 70s punk-pop, but which has drawn comparison to a huge range of bands from the 60s to the present day. Expect layered harmonies, catchy three minute tunes and the city's best rhythm section.
Shatner were formed in 2003 as Jim Bower plus brother Rick, keyboardist Chris Minz and drummer Dick Sharp re-emerged from stasis for one last shot at immortality, and to fully explore the whole midlife crisis thing. There was no plan, except to make great music. The most recent additions to the crew are Sarah Niven and Planet Claire on backing vocals.
The 2005 debut album 'Energise' a brought an uninterrupted stream of rave reviews. The band's long-awaited second album THIRTEEN O'CLOCK has just been released to even wider acclaim. It was produced by Will Jackson, whose credits include the Pigeon Detectives' number 3 UK hit album.
Despite all the media praise and a strong local reputation among gig-goers (Shatner still hold the record both for individual ticket sales and number of appearances at the popular 'Teatime shuffle' showcase) the band have struggled for acceptance from a section of the Leeds music establishment which has proven surprisingly and resolutely ageist.
