Review of The Moon's CD "Overtime"

The Moon: Overtime

Sheffield's The Moon live in a world of catchy soft-pop tunes written about girls and boys, and boys who like girls and the girls who don't like the boys who like the girls (and other clichéd love-failure subject matter). For comparisons think of a lesser-quality merger of bands like Cast with perhaps Dodgy - jingle-jangle summertime guitar themes that are good while they last yet float off leaving little or no lasting impression on the listener. The band suggest they play "punk pop" which is about as far away from this CD as you can get, almost like saying VH1 play Blink 182 videos - oh yeah, sorry, forget to mention this is quite radio friendly in a sort of Radio 2 kind of way. To drive home the they-are-not-punk message, they've played with A1 and Samantha Mumba, dress well and pose like models in their press pack: sort of Smash Hits guitar boy band image.
