The Breech @ Mixing Tin
By Lauren Strain
It turns out that this is merely The Breech's last gig of the year, not their last gig forever and ever amen, but it's still a shame that we're not going to be able to see these fellas for a good long while now, because, boy, are they contagious. After four years (I think?!) together they've honed their quick chops and slabs of sound into something so admirably tight you feel the need to hold your breath and straighten your posture. Davoc kangaroos about whilst the guitars chant and chatter and the intensely audience-friendly 'ohs', 'ahs', 'woah-ohs' and 'woah-ahs' are flung around with fatally-catchy consequences, 'The Shores' and 'She Is The Rock & Roll' (both of which feature on their golden nugget of a CD) being the main guilty culprits.
From chiming loveliness on the keyboard to sometimes-slightly-menacing bass figures, they have the crowd caught up in their spirited, poppy snippets of fun, all as delectable and sunny as a packet of Skittles. The only minor grumble we had was that we wished they could have played for a little (or a lot) longer to give themselves a proper send-off into Leeds' burgeoning history of super-colourful bright little gems of musical joy. Ah well, rest in peace, The Breech; soon may you return! Until that day, fare thee well...
Thankyouuuuu!
