Queen Adreena: Pretty Like Drugs

Katie Jane has long been a star, campaigning the right of the grrrl to fucking rock, her latest band replacing the awesome noisefest that was nineties band Daisy Chainsaw. This time around, a haunting vocal line coupled with a dark, looming drumbeat overplayed with intense guitar riffs, suggests more of the same. After the initial ear cleanse, there's an eerie repetition of the line "Pretty Like Drugs", like the calm before the storm. Doors bolted and safe, Queen Adreena lull listeners into a false sense of security before unleashing a ferocious, rabble-rousing chorus that thunders through the atmosphere like an atomic blast. Katie Jane is a great example for anyone who wishes to see how thin the line between freak and genius actually is.
