This Ain't Vegas: The Night Don Benito Saved My Life

Chaos sometimes bring with it greatness. Step to the plate This Ain't Vegas, your moment in the sun is surely here.

Hailing from the industrial wasteland of Sunderland in the northeast, a present Mecca along with our own city for kick ass bands (Maximo Park, The Futureheads) This Ain't Vegas attract attention like Kate Moss attracts feckin' loonies. Last outing "Black Lung Captain" caused the media seagulls to flock and squawk, but the sound was rusty and jaded, a promise unfulfilled. So heads up and heals undragged they have refined and polished and this LP is the result. And it really is bloody ace.

Unlike said contemporaries, the beautiful thing about TAV is that although a main crutch of their sound is some deliciously smooth harmonies, they skip along amongst some of the most ramshackle chaos I have every heard put onto CD.

I don't think I have unused the skip function on my CD player so little in ages; arm twisted to pick a few standouts I suppose I will have to mention the scruffy dog of a tune "Converted tables" - I can see me swaggering around at the Cockpit to this, and entrance track "How clear can you be Part 1" which is the epitome of the band's sound. Raucous, yet tuneful. Tight yet shaggy.

Honestly this is a fantastic piece of work and I hope it gets the attention it richly deserves. So stop following Peter around the country media moguls and get yer lugs around this fine mess.
