Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Machine

Machine is the 2nd musical bullet whizzing past your ear from the gun of these New York art-house punks and boy does it cut the air. With a riff that sounds like a guitar being dropped down the stairs (eh?) it's mighty cool stuff. "I washed it for you" croaks Karen as she sings about doing the cleaning...she does really. "Graveyard" will with time be an easily forgotten B-side but in the context of this single is more guitar chewing in under 2 minutes. "Pin (Remix)" is as soft sounding on the ear as the YYY's get, sampling Karen O's pouts and moans, they begin to sound like 90's noise-nicks Curve.

When their debut album hits the shelves it will be in big demand by those in the know and this single is a good way to get in the know for those who are not already. Reportedly once The Strokes favourite band, if there is any justice then the YYY's will be on equal footing before too long. Refusing to sign a major deal and planning on doing it their own way will probably prohibit this, but with songs as good as this who cares!
