The Apes: The Fugue in the Fog

This debut album from Washington D.C. four-piece The Apes is a powerful synthesised guerrilla war waged against anyone who will listen. The genre is indefinable - sometimes emo, sometimes grunge with a large slice of garage rock and a pinch of hip-hop. The record takes you on a journey through the emotions - the angst and hatred of the opening tracks though to the remorse and reflection of later. They are Rage Against The Machine with a synth instead of a bass, crossed with At The Drive-In. Their philosophy: "... we take what we do seriously ... it's the art, which has to speak for itself..." sounds like a load of pretentious bollocks, but who cares - the music rocks. If you like RATM's eponymous 1992 album then the chances are you will love this. Add to that the live show which promises to be amazing - complete "... with camouflage and Iggy-infused stage style" and you have to check them out - top banana.
