Review of A.R.E. Weapons's CD "s/t"

A.R.E. Weapons: s/t

As apposed to sounding like some raw disco-punk, or nu-indie-disco DFA sound-a-like, this record reminds me most of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, Afrika Bamabaata and general dodgy 80s 303 led hip hop. Which is good.

What's even better is it rocks like fuck as well, without soundiing like "Walk This Way." Songs like "Strange Dust" are chilled out, droney affairs that's what makes some of this album glide over you. But the might of "A.R.E." "Fuck You Pay Me" and of course, the classic "Street Gang" make this a great album. Lying somewhere between Primal Scream old, Primal Scream new, 80s synth rock and something like, I dunno Interpol, you essentially need to listen to this album. And then go see them rip the Hifi apart for what's sure to be THE gig event of the year.
