The Cribs @ Leeds Festival 2006
By Holden DeForge
Last year in the Radio 1 tent The Cribs gave a performance that completely won me over, becoming not just a band with good pop tunes but now the ability to deliver them in the live arena with the same quality they managed to capture on record. It was one of the performances of the weekend. The Wakefield boys have upgraded to the Main Stage and in the mid afternoon sunshine they get everybody moving with opener "Mirror Kissers". It's a strong start and the brothers Jarman manage to maintain the pace, entertaining the massive crowd with upbeat guitar melodies that are infuriatingly catchy, their broad accents blazing atop, inciting the crowd to jig and sing along. There's new material aired which stands tall and proud alongside old favourites and by the time the band wrap up one of the best sets of the weekend, I'm left thinking that it could be a scrap between mates for the title of "Kings of Yorkshire Pop".
