The Hair @ Faversham

By Rachel Wilson

It was the first Bad Sneakers of the new term and things got off to a riotous start with Leeds scenos-a-plenty heading down to check out this evening's musical talent.

The crowd slowly built throughout what I found to be an impressive and lively opening set from The Victorian English Gentlemens Club. A rather stylee three piece from Cardiff that produce drum-heavy indie pop rock that NME described as "Sexy, stripped down rock'n'roll."

The local indie glitterati were out in force this evening with various members of local bands wandering around such as Dead Disco and Duels (with James playing drums for The Hair this evening as their drummer had broken his arm) and resident DJ Nick Mills keeping the crowd entertained as the anticipation of the main act grew.

At around half past eleven, The Hair took to the stage.

This band doesn't half make a racket and I mean that in the best possible sense. They describe themselves as "scuzzy electro funk indie pop" and tore through a dynamic selection of the best they had to offer.

The set felt effortless and their status as headliners this evening was well and truly deserved. The self proclaimed "dancing happy monkey men with instruments" seemed fit to burst with cheeky northern energy and didn't stop jumping, dancing and generally pinging about from start to finish.

Their introduction to "Ghosts" urged the crowd to "Dance... Right Now!" and their witty banter and excellent tunes kept the crowd amused throughout, leaving them baying for more and many of them hanging around for the club night that followed.

All in all, a great start to the year.
