An American band with guitars and a violin will bring images of Hillbilly country rock. Add a hint of reggae and you'll be forgiven for thinking it's the Mad Hatters tea party.
In reality, what Zox has given the world is an original sound that works really well. The violin takes the place of the lead guitar. It creates a fabulous sound whether playing a riff, solo or in harmony with the electric guitar. The reggae grooves are reminiscent of The Clash, only replacing the South London attitude with American pop punk.
From the album 'Thirsty', 'Better if it Worse' and 'Big Fish' highlight the impact that their style has. The only problem with the album is that there is too much of the same thing to sustain any interest. After creating such a great sound, it's disappointing that the variation in the songs isn't there, but it's still worth a listen.
