The Cribs @ The Refectory

Tonight The Cribs seem set on staging their own mini revolution as the end of their tour draws to a close in their home county. A sold out crowd is already beginning to mosh along to the 80's hits being played, now customary at any The Cribs show. The Wakefield trio take to the stage to Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth" and launch into the snarling "Majors Titling Victory", the familiar spiky squawk of "Hey Scenesters" follows. Much of tonight's set list is made up of tracks from third album "Men's Needs Women's Needs Whatever". New material like the blistering "Our Bovine Public" and the lo-fi rumble of "Women's Needs" already sound anthemic and stand up well against old favourites "Mirror Kissers" and "You're Gonna Lose Us". Mid set Ryan Jarman addresses his public "It's a bit hot in here... do you know that's 'cos of global warming... I don't know much about that but what I do know is that we have to stop the commercialisation of indie Music." Ryan Jarman certainly doesn't have the solution to any major political or environmental problems but his cause is clear, as his band thrash through their arsenal of sniping indie punk anthems, The Cribs are hear to save us all from the generic the mundane and the bandwagon jumpers. The show is brought to a close in familiar fashion with the pop brilliance of "Another Number" and the clatter of "The Wrong Way to Be" topped off with a wall of feedback to an overheated but elated crowd. If the wheels of revolution were set in motion tonight The Cribs have a loyal army of fans to back them up in their quest.
