Review of Maps's CD "You Don't Know Her Name"

Maps: You Don't Know Her Name

Maps is the bedroom product of James Chapman. He has cut quite a cult figure as his MySpace fan-base swells and this looks set to be another release that will further propel him towards a wider audience. The laid back swelling Indie bliss-out is perfect for a warm summer (you remember those?). As a band Maps sound like JAMC singing an Ian Brown track with Sigur Ros in the production seat; this is an intriguing radio friendly mix whilst remaining suitably left-field. There is a certain hint of failed Manchester outfit Echoboy. The overall vibe is one of bubbling warmth and musically provides the soundtrack to a dance floor dream sequence. "You Don't Know Her Name" will be pleasing to both chilling dance heads and Indie kids looking for a break from pouting. Less pleasing are B-sides "Fall Part" and the weak remixes on offer but expect plenty more of the good stuff from Mr Chapman and his Maps in the future.
