Chapter Thirteen @ Woodkirk Valley Country Club
By Nick CoplandFollowing a surprise withdrawl by Josie's Turbulent World just days before the second heat of the Survival of The Fittest competition at the Strychnine Lounge, the night saw fierce competiton and a very close result. First up was Chapter Thirteen with some powerful tunes driven along by complex bass lines and a superb vocal performance from their frontman. A set with much variety, including as it did a less frenetic song with the lead guitarist on vocals, and an absolutely blinding cover.
Next were Leeds based Hatch with their solid wall-of-sound approach and very strong vocals combining to produce a total assault on the ears. Very polished and totally convincing, the band showed why they are definitely one of the bands to catch this summer.
Last up were the Chindidts, who, although they were drafted in at the last minute were well supported and gave an energetic in-your-face performance - there was no compromise here. With songs distilled from the leftovers of punk, mixed with a fair portion of sportz metal and some full-frontal 3-way vocals, The Chindits were definitely on form despite the short notice.
