The Cribs @ Bradford University

By Toni Lines

The Cribs weren't set to play close to home on this tour, so when Ryan Jarman announced this Bradford University show as their 'home-town gig' the Wakefield chants were inevitable. The three-piece hurl themselves straight into a beautifully chaotic set with 'Our Bovine Public', then burst into 'Hey Scenesters!' before introducing themselves (cue more 'Wakefield' chanting).

New song 'Don't you wanna be relevant?' was played halfway through, and most fans already knew the words after watching the decaying cartoon lads in the new video over and over again on YouTube. As Gary and Ryan fight over lead vocals and Ross attacks his drumkit like its done something terrible, The Cribs show the Bradford crowd how it's done, the messy lo-fi pop punk seems to just get better and better with each performance. Latest album songs including 'Mens Needs' and 'I'm A Realist' go down a storm, and of course the first album classic 'Another Number' see the crowd reach their peak, Ryan does his now trademark stage dive, then everything gets slowed down for an acoustic version of 'Shoot The Poets', ever popular 'The Wrong Way To Be' is the last song from the Jarman brothers, who are slowly but surely getting everything they deserve & becoming the voice of a generation.

Support slots came from Icelandic pop / rock outfit Jakobinarina, who played a strange but wonderful set and an old mate of The Cribs, Bobby Conn.
