Review of The Blakes's CD "s/t"

The Blakes: s/t

Seattle trio who seem to have their fingers on several pulses, the 13 tracks here run through genres like a modern rock 101. Singer Garnet Keim is particularly adept at switching from Jack White yelps on opener 'Two Times' to Killers melodies on 'Run' while the music too is happy to cover as many bases as possible, Killers again on closer 'Streets' (a positive epic at 3:49 with every other track coming in sub 3 mins) and most blatantly on 'Modern Man' which channels Kings of Leon like a it's a séance.

It's a shame as 'Modern Man' along with a good few other songs 'don't want that now' and 'Lie next to me' for example do have some effective melodies, which with this stuff is half the battle.

Listening to the album through is like watching a covers band, waiting for the spark of recognition as the ghost of hits past passes through. It the Psykick Dancehall!
