Dillinger Escape Plan @ Leeds Festival 2002

By Suzanne Hutchinson

Dillinger Escape Plan got things off to a storming start on the Main Stage at Leeds. Coming at you with mighty 3-minute power bursts of songs the kids down the front loved it. Main man Greg Puciato rants his vocals at you, getting the moshing masses even more hyped by crowd surfing and spitting all over the front of the stage. The DEP musical vision is an assault on the eardrums via Greg's raw, undecipherable lyrics backed by unpredictable, rampant guitars and gunfire drums. The recent work with Mike Patton, namely 'Irony is a Dead Scene' shone through. Some may say they have no structure, but there sure is a tune holding everything together in there somewhere- honest. After getting the festy going with a noise offensive DEP made good their stage escape to howling feedback and a riotous response from the crowd.
