Thanks John, a nice thoughtful review that.
Discerning listeners can buy this compact disc for three pounds (or thereabouts) from Jumbo, Crash, Radish or www.unexplodedshells.info - click on MUSIC.
I am listening to this record now. It is TREMENDOUS.
Wow... The Darkness and Russell Brand. I'd recommend going to see The Scaramanga Six live at once in order to purge your mind of these fairly alarming comparisons!
I've just listened to this song and it sounds like they're just making it up as they go along. Not in a bad way though.
Shut up Rick.
The Seven Inches are brilliant, it's true.
Hi there. Maybe I was a bit harsh in my initial comment here - you're right, the tone perhaps wasn't helpful. Sorry Paul. I should also have added that I thought what you wrote was actually a good read, and doubtless sincere and seriously thought out.
I actually agree with you Paul - I wouldn't want a review to be a factual account taken straight from the band's own website. I'd want to know your opinion of the music - and I'd want to know how and why you formed that opinion. The thing is, the review actually doesn't tell me much about what you thought of the music itself, and it says virtually nothing about what it was about the music that made you feel that way. So to my mind, while it's a good piece of writing, it doesn't really constitute a review. As you say, it's a matter of individual perspectives differing.
And don't get too disheartened by the amount of negativity in these comment fields - that's what they're for, surely!
Vessel? Isn't that the singer in David Devant And His Spirit Wife?
That's that sorted out then.
I talk about Loqui all the time. Mainly to myself.
I would strongly recommend doing a purchase of this album.
Blimey. Helen Love.
Just a few things you might want to know Mattdrummer...
"no good for them or anyone else if people hold back from giving them the sort of criticism they'd get from someone who didn't know them" - I think that's rather patronising. We've had our share of good and bad reviews, but we don't really need you to decide what is or isn't good for us thanks.
If Gav thought we were shit (and I don't know if he did or not), then I would't have a problem with him saying so. The more honest the better as far as I'm concerned.
"Someone who didn't know them" - I wouldn't say I knew Gav really. I've met him twice and had the briefest of conversations with him both times. As far as I'm aware no one else in the band knows him either.
"Preferential treatment" - bollocks. If we get the odd decent gig (and first-on at the TTS isn't THAT special, as you'll note if you look back through the website and see who else has played it), it's because we're prepared to take a bit of initiative and put a bit of legwork in. It might be true that because a couple of us have been involved in Sandman we've sometimes have a lead on who to ask (although probably not as much as you think), but it still comes down to getting on the phone, sending emails and giving out CDs. If promoters don't like us there's nothing stopping them saying no. What do you want us to do, insist on playing nothing but bottom-of-the-bill at the Cardi Arms for the rest of our lives?
Thanks for the namecheck Dave... almost makes up for the fact that you DIDN'T ACTUALLY MANAGE TO MENTION THE FACT THAT MY BAND PLAYED TOO!
Hi, I guess you must be Fiona? I thought you were really good, don't worry about the review.
Oi, what about Unexploded Shells!
Sorry, ego gripes aside, I thought it was a really good night. Much kudos to Jonny for organising it and everyone else for playing/attending. And yes, the Seven Inches bloke was great (although I think it's Ian not Lee...)
Tongue in cheek. What an odd phrase.
