LMS is THE website for Leeds music in terms of quality / quantity of reviews, band resources, news, gig listings etc - I don't think there is any debate there.
'saladcream' - what a pathetic viewpoint. Why not bring these "proper bands" to the attention of the LMS team if you think they are not represented?
This is totally crazy, the third band slot is good for local bands, which you bods should be all in favour of. There's five and a half hours between 5:30 and 11:00 this is plenty of time for three bands to set up and soundcheck. Sort it out people, cutting the second support slot is a crime. If the Kaiser Cheifs can sound that good after 10mins then so can anyone.
This band are on John Peel tonight if anyone's interested - I presume it's the same Bilge Pump. I don't know anything about them but I just heard the name on Mark & Lard and thought it rang a bell. Happy listening!
I wasn't at the gig either but in the past I've liked Tennessee Traincrash, the vocals reminded me a little of The Rogers Sisters. PS in light of the above discussion I plan to set up a sister site called 'Leeds Reviewer Scene', a good idea, no?This message was last edited on 30/10/03 11.38:15
There was much cheering and hollering and whooping and grunting and hurrahing coming from the crowd where I was, but then thinking back, that might just have been me! "All governments are liars and murderers" graphic sticks in my mind, along with all the bombs and searchlights, plus a helmetted alien singing out of it's ear to Slow Life - brilliant!
We're dealing with a music Business which unfortunately rewards acts for their profile far more than for the music they make, because, like any business, it is the publicity which sells, not the product. In most cases hype is generated for all the wrong reasons, almost to the point where I will immediately doubt a band if they have a buzz or whatever about them. This is a shame in light of the many musicians who are making great music without much recognition, obscured by others who are judged on anything but the merit of their music. It's a sad state of affairs.
I know what you mean about the mis-matching of supports and the promotion in general at The Roscoe. What is it with that place? It has a great PA and is a lovely pub but the band selection is pretty shocking.
