I should've pointed out that the other bands can be found at http://www.myspace.com/cissysound and http://www.myspace.com/trapdoorminotaur
Of course, as everyone knows, this is the third outing from Tilly and the Wall. Profuse apologies for having indicated otherwise...
Why. oh why, did Pushbike Army not get given a slot at the festival? The kids would've loved it. Grrr. Oh well - at least the Bacchae got through. See you at the Introducing stage!
Thanks for changing the artwork; this is indeed what I was thinking of! What a shame the band subsequently split up...
I thought the usual form for Futuresound was for the bands to appear in the order listed - i.e. top first. The timings posted on the door had definitely been amended with a marker pen...
Two things to your comment; 'which half?', and 'due to compulsive fidgeting'.
How disappointing to hear that we have but a few more short months of the mighty Kittens! I'm grateful to have had this opportunity to sample their efforts, though; a few 'eloquent' (?!) words were the least I could offer...
"For all his youth... he does not fail to disappoint". What a shame. He was fantastic at the Fav a couple of months back, and that was before he invested in the all-in-one Spiderman get-up, too!
What a fantastic article... I was gripped by every word (especially the word "pub", funnily enough.)
There was plenty of movement where I was; so much so that my specs got clunked off my head and ground into the floor by a dozen pairs of Converse. And you know what? I didn't even care. What a great night!
I beg to differ; they seemed both stylish AND substantial to me! It was just a wee bit odd that there was more movement in my part of the audience (about half way back) than there was at the front. As far as I'm concerned, it's difficult to listen to these guys without wanting to dance your *actual* socks off.
Oh, and the support were Holy Hail; not rubbish, exactly, but perhaps rather too shouty at times.
What really impressed me about this show was the band's ability to win the audience over with a collection of tunes that were, for the most part, unknown to us. The level of crowd surfing during the encore certainly elicited some spectacular 'saves' from the stage-front heavies. Let's hope the humility surives such adoration!
Having been at the gig, I'm afraid that the fact that I was present at some kind of rousing red rally completely passed me by! 'The Beeching Report', for me, is a lament of the overblown excesses of central planning and - as far as I could tell - 'The Deception' charted Donald Crowhurst's doomed entry in the 1968 Golden Globe race.
Perhaps I missed something. Oh - and I thought Troubles were pretty damn good as well; HotS without the wilful awkwardness and reedy vocals, but plus a neat line in fizzing slow-builders.
And if you really wanted your head blown off, you should've turned up in time for AnteAter - which was strangely brilliant, and certainly explosive.
Personally I thought the 'yawny acoustic' tag applies to rather too much of this album - not just Sketches in Technicolour. The offerings by Wintermute, the Guests and All Your Peers are all pretty lively, though, and it's not too bad for a freebie CD!
Cheers! But if one's just got one's grubby mitts on the new DTTR a month ahead of release, the least one can do is to cobble together a couple of hundred words on the subject. ;-)
To avoid undeserved credit, I should point out that Dave Hughes took that photo, not me! Oh - and is there any reason this piece doesn't appear on any of the lists of articles? "Because it wasn't very good" is probably the response I deserve. ;-)
It's not strictly anything to do with the review, but why the link (top right) say 'Buy this CD now for £6'... when following the link takes you to an unremarkable £8-99 price tag at Amazon? Crivens, the evil capitalists are infiltrating the system!
Calm down Rob! Let's keep this professional; I'm supposed to be impartial after all... ;-)
