Posted in News Article: Local venue to introduce a controversial booking rule...

Well - here's a simple question Keith - where do you find out about gigs at "The Vine etal"? If there are any angles that other venues are covering that we aren't, I'd love to know so we can deal with it.

I would add that the MIGNON gig was on our website, it was on LMS listings, it was notified with info to: LMS, Leeds Guide, YEP, Ents24, Random, Gigwise. There were posters in the venue and the gig was included in our in-house free listings mag which is distributed beyond the venue (though we are still developing the circulation of this.)

In any case - the MIGNON gig was not affected by local bands over-gigging. Although Babyfood (the support) were quite busy around then they did a sterling job both in helping to publicise the show and putting on a great performance. With hindsight, I believe we should have put in a second support - but in any case, the example is irrelevant to the over-gigging problem.

Posted in CD Review: Finka - Untitled

What and excellent review Rick. I've been struggling to characterise Finka since they supported Four Day Hombre at RPC on Tuesday because I can't deny they're good but felt there was just a little something lacking - you sum it up perfectly. Well worth a return visit though!

Posted in Band Profile: Bilge Pump

Bugger - missed it! Bilge Pump are, IMOH, the best of a small number of bands on the Leeds DIY scene that make the whole thing worthwhile - amazing musicians.

Posted in Live Review: The Darkness

Eeerm, I think Dave was trying to make the point that while there's bad shit going on & serious questions that need to be asked, questions about The Darkness are not inportant and they provide light relief?

Doesn't answer the point I made in my original comment though!

How're you doing anyway James - Student life agreeing????

Posted in CD Review: Cardboard Cowboy - Untitled

It's SO nice when someone confirms your first impressions - heard Cardboard Cowboy demo for the first time a couple of weeks ago & offered them a gig straight away. They couldn't do it, but ho hum, there's always next time.

PLEASE though guys - don't start thinking you can build a whole career on recording four songs in twelve hours.....

Posted in CD Review: Smilex - Mystique / Sex 4 Sale

This is interesting - I've seen Smilex twice too. The first time was at The Casbah in Sheffield while I was on tour with Xilast Easter. I was so horrified that I left the tour the next night in order to be at Smilex's RPC show to do a damage limitation exercise.

In fact - they were excellent at RPC & I had no hesitation in booking a return show.

So never make snap judgements!

Are this Little Big Men the same band that are playing HAWKFEST? - if so, respect!

Lucky bastards

Posted in Live Review: Snail Racing + Tigers!

Snail Racing are excellent! - I hope to have them at RPC for a weekend show in the early Autumn. They would have made an excellent support for DRAT, the Northern Irish Grandaddy-esque band we have on 12th July - shame I hadn't heard them befoe I booked this one up!
