3 Daft Monkeys are a three-piece made up of a female violin player / vocalist (Athene Roberts), electric bass player Jamie Waters and male vocalist / 12 string acoustic guitarist Tim Ashton, who also plays a kick drum and occasionally adds whistle to what their website calls a "colourful carnival of sound".
It is said everybody is worth their 5 minutes of fame. Be it car crash reality TV carnage or that guy who once streaked at Wimbledon, everyone deserves their moment of glory no matter how fleeting.

This didn't feel much like a gig. In fact, it felt like a few stoned hippies jamming and having some silly, ridiculous fun whilst they can.
Apparently 'Lee' in front of me was number 8 and the Chuckle Brother-esque guy "remembered '66", the army of football paraphernalia clad men, held their pints aloft, sweated profusely (football shirts have never been designed for sweat) and from their post McD guts chanted "Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire", taking particular care to emphasise the ork.
The first band to be showcased were York-based Kanuba, a fresh-faced quartet whose funk-rock billing doesn't really reflect their versatility and ability to cause a stir with some heavy beats and bass lines.
After debuting on a handful of live shows the band have a healthy C.V of support slots with Silver Ginger 5, The Jellys and playing with Terrorvision at their last ever gig (which incidentally was their first) Butterfinger are absolutely amazing.

Day three: my, doesn't time fly? The sun's out too, which is a welcoming start to the day especially for those camped out near the Main Stage for the first of two Flogging Molly appearances.
Considering the headliner I'd expected to see more of a gathering than became evidently 'it' towards the end of the evening.

Student feeding-ground by day, 'The Refectory' at Leeds University Union may not seem like the obvious location for a night of top musical entertainment, but I was certainly impressed by the sound and light show at the excellent Placebo gig here this time last year.

Aces & Eights are one of the only recent bands who have not come directly from MySpace. Rather than relying on the support of their, admittedly, over 1000 "Friends" they've worked their way up through the grimy Leeds pubs to arrive, not quite signed and slightly tainted, at the Cockpit.
Mr. Shiraz have everything you could possibly want in a band: a very well polished horn section, a mean looking drummer, hyper-singers (including an all singing all dancing version of Bez on acid) walking bass and funky guitar.
In the busy world of the Leeds Music Scene, there's always a few bands who slip quietly into the main arena. iLiKETRAiNS are one of these bands, playing their sometimes gentle, sometimes fierce, but always beautiful take on post rock theatrics.
It's all just about to get a little bit Nasty. The great thing about dubbing yourself a 'festival of nu-wave' is that you pretty much have the leeway to put anything you want on the bill and slam the indiscriminate tag of 'nu-wave' atop and no-one will bat an eyelid.
