Bilge Pump and Pifco release a split single on Run Of The Mill records
Leeds bands Bilge Pump and Pifco will release a split 7" single as part of Run Of The Mill Records' "They Do Them" series.
Various Artists: Bilge Pump / Pifco - split single
Now this is going to be a noise fest. With these bands you just know it - two of the nastiest, brashest, craziest acts in the city.
Was I the only person left in Leeds who hadn't seen Bilge Pump yet? I suspect there might be one or two guitar band members who haven't had the experience.
Les Savy Fav record like a fucked-up Pixies and play live like complete mad bastards in an art-punk, post-hardcore vein, which is no surprise when they feature a front man like the bearded Tim Harrington.
Bilge Pump @ Brudenell Social Club
The Brudenell Social club played host to three bands, all helping to raise funds for the Asian Earthquake Disaster appeal.
Lightning Bolt @ Brudenell Social Club
The venue is slowly starting to fill when Like a kind of Matador take to the stage. A trio comprising of a guitarist, a drummer and a flutist who then proceed to produce some mighty fine concept rock.
Bilge Pump @ Brudenell Social Club
It may be Friday 13th, but as someone who as of yesterday is free from the clutches of academia for 3 months, I am most certainly not going to let that stop me from having a top night; and judging by the line-up, a little superstition isn't going to get in the way at all.
Sweep The Leg Johnny @ Adelphi Hotel
I was really looking forward to this gig - I'd experienced 'Sweep' live before when we played an all-dayer with them in Wigan, so I knew the treat that was in store.
I arrived at the Cockpit at about 8.00 pm and was pleasantly surprised to see the venue very busy for that time of night and on a Monday.
DJ Scotch Egg @ Brudenell Social Club
As expected from a night run by omnipresent and ever-insane Leeds musicians / promoters / general busybodies Adam Benbow-Browne (Café Adam, Ad Hoc) and Matt Reid (Chickenhawk, The Grand March, ex-Whores Whores Whores), things get off to an unusual start with a rabbit playing Street Fighter in the middle of the room.

Latest split 7" single from Obscene Baby Auction Records...
Obsecene Baby Auction Records released their latest split 7" earlier this month. A picture disc the 7" features tracks by Bilge Pump and Brown Owl: "Both bands contribute a solitary song each which is exclusive to this record and they are both amazing so buy it, it looks really really great on your record player as well, believe." The single was limited to 300 copies - here at LMS we have no idea how many are left, if any, so you must be swift or they will all have gone.

Leeds label Obscene Baby Auction Records have a couple of recent releases that are available now. Quack Quack release a new single on Run Of The Mill records
Leeds based Quack Quack released their first single through Run of the Mill records on 12th June. Both tracks, "Mars" and "The Great Catsby", reveal a recognisable progression building on the innovative characteristics heard on their debut self titled EP.
Great name, lovely looking art work - but what does it sound like? The Quacks are a minimal three-piece - just a bass, drums and keyboards; but each is essential in adding texture and colour to this brief CD.
LS6 Bands Tent line up announced for Unity Day 2006
Joseph's Well and The Engine Room have today announced the line up for the bands tent at Unity Day 2006, the Leeds 6 community festival taking place on Hyde Park on Saturday, August 5th.

Band Profile: It Takes Bridges
It's a riot based around riffs, drama, sweat and volume. Think The Fall fighting Nirvana for the last of the drugs.
Leeds label Brew Records to release a compilation of Yorkshire's experimental music scene
Leeds-based record label Brew Records will release a compilation album in December. The label started in June 2007 when Thomas Bellhouse received community grant funding from the Scarman Trust and set out, along with fellow enthusiast and musician Simon Glacken, to document more of the experimental music bursting out of Yorkshire.
This three piece instrumental, instrument swapping band was formed in Spring 2005. Drummer, Neil Turpin, also mans the kit for Bilge Pump and Polaris and has done a stint in HiM alongside Doug Scharin.
Brainwash Festival: two venues and over thirty bands and all in aid of charity!
The idea behind the Brainwash Festival is simple: to bring together the finest artists this country has to offer.
Mexican Alibi: The Ace Catastrophe
"I've seen people and I've seen places/ But I'll never see familiar faces / I'll be your alibi and you'll be mine / we'll be fine in the countryside" are fairly catastrophic lyrics I'll grant you.
For Leeds based four piece Sailors, this is paradoxically, both their first and last 'proper' release, as they have in actuality already split up, playing their last gig earlier in March.
Ahh, the rigour of That Fucking Tank's riff-ravaged post rock is quite a detachment from the banality of everyday life.
Experimental Audio Research @ Brudenell Social Club
After 6 hours of a mix of all sorts of music at the Woodhouse Liberal Club, a benefit gig for Love Music, Hate Racism, it's time for the next gig just down the road from where I used to live.
Lightning Bolt @ Brudenell Social Club
Arriving at the venue around 5pm, the Brudenell Social Club is already packed out with a whole variety of people.
This review is really rather late, for which I apologise profusely. If I may, I shall explain how I came to be so rubbish at time-keeping, life-maintenance and being able to do stuff in general.
