Band Profile: Jon Gomm

Singer-songwriter and virtuoso guitarist, described by Acoustic Magazine as "One of the world's most successful, gifted and inspirational guitar players"

Jon Gomm @ Royal Park Cellars

Playing acoustic guitar before Jon Gomm must be a rather daunting experience but Tim knocks out quite a strong set of songs with confessional and indeed rather poetic lyrics with fresh sounding strummy guitar.

Jon Gomm @ Mixing Tin

How do you go about describing a man who has had so many superlatives thrown his way already. With plaudits expressed such as amazing, utterly brilliant and a genius talent countless times already then you can already grasp what talent we are dealing with.

Nick Harper @ City Varieties

This, by Gomm's own admission, was a special night for him: "Nick's a big influence on me, about fifty per cent - which is about as much as my parents." Indeed, the superficial similarities are not coincidental.

Jon Gomm @ Grove Inn

At the thought of Jon Gomm, and the prospect of attempting to express the inexpressible, the pen trembles.

Jon Gomm @ The Junction (Otley)

I couldn't miss the chance to see Jon Gomm in a remote pub in Otley, just far enough away from the rowdy bars in Leeds.

Foley (2) @ Royal Park Cellars

My first trip of 2004 into the deep dark depths of the Royal Park Cellars. It's often dirty rock you find emanating from the cellars but this evening it's an altogether more mellow collection of bands.

Angelo Palladino @ Mixing Tin

Sometimes Annalee would venture into town to see live music in venues she'd never been to before... Time to reassess?

Jon Gomm @ New Roscoe

This is the second time I have seen Gallo and I like them more every time. The female duo have a lot of talent between them and use guitar and saxophone to produce some lovely funky, jazzy, blusey medleys, topped off with an angelic, but strong voice that you have to notice.

Angelo Palladino @ Mixing Tin

What do you do when none of your mates will go to a gig with you? When Jon Gomm is on the bill, you go on your own!

Jon Gomm @ Love Apple (Bradford)

I think we all know the story by now. A young sprightly reviewer who has never seen Jon Gomm before sits himself down and waits in anticipation.

Jon Gomm @ Mixing Tin

9 Years ago I had the pleasure of seeing Adrian Legg performing in Manchester, a gig which changed my view of the acoustic guitar.

Jon Gomm @ Cardigan Arms

The upstairs room at the Cardigan Arms is a perfect place for an acoustic gig. With its small, dark room, the atmosphere is made even better by the dozen or so candles that are situated around the room, creating a very intimate feel to the whole place.

Jon Gomm @ Baby Jupiter

On the second and fourth Thursday of every month, Leeds offers us a new acoustic night: "Stripped" at Baby Jupiter.

Jon Gomm @ HiFi Club

d-koy have hair that has not been seen since Hundred Reasons first graced the stage all those years ago.

Woody Mann @ New Roscoe

I must admit, sitting in 'The Angel', (good cheap drinks here ladies and gentlemen), en route to 'The Roscoe' I was lost in the conversation from the other table - let's not go there but...

Jon Gomm: Hypertension

I remember the first time I saw Jon play live - it must be going on three years ago in the Packhorse I think, quite a gangly fellow I thought, bit of a Goth maybe, would he start singing about powder paint and lipstick and have a big moan?

Libero: Defined and Refined

They hail from Wakefield. A lady I thank you and 3 Gentlemen folk. Spangly bittersweet guitar melodies been the sound that the masses may or may not sway along to.

Hillstomp: One Word

Hillstomp claim to play a brand of North Mississippi trance blues... yep that's what I thought. But surprisingly this is a real musical gem.
