Yet another indie/ rock four piece are here to stifle our souls. Hooray. This time it's Sleeve, a Sheffield formed band that "live in a dream." There's a bit more to them than the usual Oasis sound-a-likes.
The opening bars of the mistitled "Orgasm" are beautifully done. A well controlled and very sweet guitar phrase leads into Anthony Slattery's very good vocal delivery on a big open song.
I get to the Mixo about 1 and a bit songs from the end of "unknown opener"'s set, so I can only comment as follows - it's a bit emo, a bit metal, a lot out of tune and a bit pretend standing still moshing at the front.
The opening guitar induces a wince, the shaky drumbeat turns the wince into a grimace and as the vocals come in teeth grind until there's nothing but flesh.

Now, two years later, it finally gets a UK release with a modified tracklisting that sees a number of the album's original songs dropped in favour of three tracks from Kill Hannah's as-yet-unreleased-in-the-UK debut, 'For Ever and Never.' The result is more a 'best of' than a coherent album, but you can hardly blame Kill Hannah for wanting to make the best possible impression on the UK audience.

If somebody told me that Mary Cook (a.k.a. We're Not The Cool Kids) lived an entirely solitary existence, away from anybody else's music or influence, I think I'd believe them, at least for a minute (that being the minute that someone informed me that there was a Springsteen cover on her EP).
Considering the headliner I'd expected to see more of a gathering than became evidently 'it' towards the end of the evening.

'This town is in disarray' claims the opening track from this sampler, but clearly not in a bad way. As an album it may suffer from being a hotchpotch of radically different offerings from local record labels, but I'd be surprised if any unwitting industry mogul - into whose hand this disc may have been thrust at the recent SXSW festival, and who actually took the time to give it a spin - failed to diagnose a clean bill of health for the current Leeds scene.
