Three Random Words was formed, officially, in September 2003. Roger (vocals, guitar) and Danny (lead guitar) had been wanting to start a band for a while, the former having worked as a solo artist for some time, the latter never having had the opportunity to publicly express himself through music.

When a band includes ex members of Guns and Roses and the singer from Stone Temple Pilots it is impossible not to draw comparisons between those bands and the new one those members have formed Velvet Revolver.
'Ow do, Sirs? It would stand to reason, that within a year or so of the Arctic Monkeys' slightly bemusing and chaotic arrival onto the music scene, there was suddenly gonna be a deluge of two bit chancers picking up guitars and warbling away in local dialect.
So here we have an "unsigned band showcase". Call me bitter, and even counter productive in the encouragement of fledgling bands but I hate these things.

Leeds' latest progressive-alt-rock band, Blue Sky Project, show plenty of promise with this record yet generally fall just short in delivering the quality goods expected of a band fronted by enigmatic singer / songwriter / guitarist / promoter / label boss Lewis Denby.
The first instalment in what was to be another very memorable night. 10,000 Things arrived with a nice solid bass, wild guitar sounds, decent vocals, a sharp percussionist and some disappointing drums, but left me feeling somewhat thwarted by a distinct lack of thought.
From the depths of Zebra Industries, I'm clouted on the back of the head by a very interesting three track demo CD of side project material.

If there was any evidence needed that unsigned local music is thriving in the UK then here's another example.
York, eh? Lovely place, full of historical importance and quaint old streets full of olde shoppes. As for music though, it's probably not the first place you'd look for talent.
The Vine seems to have a cross section of every genre of rock 'n roll tonight, as we move through pseudo funk, light indie, Maiden-esque metal and then finally some anthemic indie stompers.

The first song on this album is the title track. It rocks and stomps, demanding volume. Burgess blends his natural voice, with the falsetto style he adopted on the 'Wonderland' album.

I often think I'd like to marry a harmonica. They're neat, compact, shiny little things; you can use them as liberally or minimally as you wish and they make all the right noises.
Never saw it myself, but full Brucey bonus points for the transformation of the Fav. Once noted for its triple Moldovan vodka's that were a liver defying £1.50, it made a great host for Saturday's inaugural Bad Sneakers.

Immune @ Brudenell Social Club
After a short summer hiatus the Engine Room's cogs and pistons pumping again. As it splutters into action it's headliners Immune who emerge from the stifling smoke (machine) and jerk into industrial action.
It doesn't seem all that long ago that you would see a Kaiser Chief every week, most often behind a bar.
The evening kicks off with MOJO PIN, a young band who I have not heard before. I was suitably impressed for a first hearing (normally I prefer to hear bands at least once before I review them); although the vocals were a little soft in parts and definition to the words would be an asset, especially when announcing songs.
An evening of contrasts at the New Roscoe was enjoyed by a pleasantly sizable crowd - given that it was a Wednesday night and clashed with the nation's prima donnas kicking a bag of wind with scant success - proof, if proof be need be, that live music at grass roots level is alive and kicking.
As those of you out there who are musical types will know, the wonderful world of MySpace allows you the excellent facility to advertise your wares via the listing of "upcoming gigs", marvellous!
The first band to be showcased were York-based Kanuba, a fresh-faced quartet whose funk-rock billing doesn't really reflect their versatility and ability to cause a stir with some heavy beats and bass lines.
To be honest I had never heard of the first two bands that were on the bill this evening, so I went into this completely blind but very open to the prospect of hearing something new and fresh to my ears.
