Screaming their way all the way from Japan, home of lock n loll, Electric Eel Shock are here for your daughter.
Electric Eel Shock: Transworld Ultra Rock
Dispensing with the need to be ironic or clever, having English as a second language is perfect for fists in the air rock, as Ozzy has consistently shown. Indeed Black Sabbath have been one of Electric Eel Shock's main influences along with a host of other 80's rock luminaries. It's a style accurately described by their own press as 'fashion proof' and you'd have to agree there's very little here that would identify it as a record made in 2007.
Shock Defeat!: How Did We Make It So Angry?
The modern age, it's a killer ain't it? With the millions of infobytes each of us has to deal with every day why is it that music reviews are running longer and becoming increasingly verbose?
Various Artists: Shock Rock: Wall Of Sound
New rave. Makes you want to look away doesn't it? New talent being pigeonholed into genre specific straight jackets, and all as a sorry excuse for the latest scene or fad to grow and take hold of our vulnerable teens.
For all of those about to read, if you know either of these bands then you will most certainly know what will be coming up in this review.
For the uninitiated in things Nasty, Nasty Fest is the coolest, most fashionable festival in Leeds. This is the land of the true fashionista, where colossal hair for the boys; plunging neck lines for the girls and the most god damn cool clothing available to mankind are compulsory!

The Wedding Present: Interstate 5
In 1997 The Wedding Present was put on hold while Leeds favourite Indie son embarked on a new path exploring strings, flutes, film scores, sweet melodies and a lesser degree of big guitar.
This 10 track CD on Eggbert Records is a celebration of traditional guitar pop values. Danny Slack, Sam Forrest, Dave Hunt and Tom Johnson do timeless craftsman-built songs as if English punk had never happened.
Afternoon are new to me. But experience has its mitts all over this accomplished demo. Learning that they recently did support for Oceansize at Joseph's Well made me even sicker at having missed that gig.
Random lost souls have asked me "what's the future of Rock and Roll?", I said "I don't know, does it matter?" This and that scene sound all the same to me, neither much worse or much better...
US Maple @ Brudenell Social Club
Monday nights. It's the start of the working week (Christ) or it's still the weekend for the proverbial student.
Smilex are from Oxford. They're inventive and spirited and should do a fizzing stir-fry of set at the Royal Park Cellars when they come to Leeds on November 1st.
Shut Your Eyes And You'll Burst Into Flames: Signal Noise
Already a mainstay and one of the most immediate and sublime highlights of Leeds' very own 10 legged, triple afro adorned post-punk 5 piece Shut Your Eyes And You'll Burst Into Flames' ever staggeringly good live shows, it's not a shock that 'Signal Noise' is the opening shot of what could be a very special musical journey indeed.
"I've been here for ten minutes, and so far I've heard ten minutes of feedback". Someone said that to me last night at The Vine about mid-way through The Somatics' set.
Les Georges Leningrad: Sur Les Traces De Black Eskimo
Les Georges Leningrad are back with their delightfully bizarre second album, which follows up Deux Hot Dogs Moutarde.
The Needles: In Search of the Needles
Aberdeen's guitar-pop bashers The Needles have finally made it on to a long player, not that at 35 minutes it's that long!
The last time I heard anyone mention Hanoi Rocks it was in a Pitchfork Media roundup of the best records of 2006.
THE BEGINNING At age 6, I started piano lessons and worked my way up to ABRSM Grade 8 at aged 15 with 142/150 marks, the highest in the country at the time.
I get hayfever. Real bad, sometimes. But this particular strain of Pollen is infectious and debilitating in the best possible way - it will make you 1) sing (uncontrollably and loudly) and 2) stand there in shock unable to do a thing except sniff, your eyes watering, but for an entirely different reason to that large and inconsiderate yellow field a few streets away.
London-Based Tat are a young trio of punk popsters who have heavy influences of Green Day and Rancid.
What we have here are two good voices and one mission to go spaced out and relaxed. Superficially it has Boards of Canada for the underlay and lite nu R&B as the deep pile upholstery.
Back to Mine are at the pinnacle of the music compilation scene, providing interesting and eclectic selections from some of the greatest names in the dance music scene and beyond including, The Orb, Underworld, New Order, Faithless and by far the best up to date Groove Armada.
Colin Mounsey: Where Did Everything Go So Badly Wrong?
Colin Mounsey has issues: "This man created evil, this man created pain" just two of the accusations labelled at Daniel O'Donnell's favourite bearded man on 'Fuck You Jesus'.
There's not a lot of bands that can make you feel like you're on a mind-altering drug when you're actually chronically sober.
Many People don't like ska. I am one of those people. I just don't get it! I understand the aspect of "fun" in the music, I understand that many local ska bands incorporate as many instruments as possible in order to rectify the lack of musical talent.
Now here's something you don't get very often - a band who like indie music but don't sound like The Stone Roses or Oasis.
Rilo Kiley: Under The Blacklight
July 2nd 2007: Rilo Kiley's latest single 'The Moneymaker' hits the internet, and all hell breaks loose; it's like the indie apocalypse - who knew fans of America's cutest band could be quite so vicious?
City And Colour @ Brudenell Social Club
City And Colour are a curious act to find in a place like this. To think that a member of an internationally renowned screamo outfit would bring his solo acoustic tour to the Brudenell sounds absolutely ludicrous.
All fingers and no thumbs here. Middle Finger Salute have an average age of sixteen, but sound well beyond their years.
Grannys4skin: Inventing The Pildo EP
With their abrasive, cartoonish vocals and shock-tactic lyrics, Grannys4Skin aren't going to be to everyone's taste.
Foley (2) @ Royal Park Cellars
My first trip of 2004 into the deep dark depths of the Royal Park Cellars. It's often dirty rock you find emanating from the cellars but this evening it's an altogether more mellow collection of bands.
"Welcome" - a sign should state on the door "Welcome to the parade of terrible band names". Never has a bill seen a more dastardly set of band names since Butthole Surfers, Anal Beard and British Sea Power may or may not have appeared together.
GU Medicine's mix of heavy rock and roll is delivered with convincing force, just like the headliners.
Moving Units @ Brudenell Social Club
Comparing bands is a funny business. You can say that a band are like the Happy Mondays, and mean it to be a good thing, but find that you are actually putting someone else off.
Considering the torrential rain wiping out anything on the streets across Leeds, the Well was surprisingly full.

Various Artists: Digital Northerner III
If you procure Digital Northerner in the expectation of the latest bleepy electro-pop from the north of England then you're in for something of a shock.
Edison Medicine @ Joseph's Well
Apologies to Mizkarrage of Justice, as I was late (I always seem to be late these days). I got there in time to hear something I recognised but couldn't place and as I was scrabbling round for a pen realised it was cover of something.
The Sunshine Underground: Commercial Breakdown
It's here. It's black. It's got a whopping fluorescent neon logo on it. It's in a real plastic case - y'know, one of those that proper singles are packaged in when you buy them from huge chain retailers called things like 'HMV' and 'Virgin Megastores'.
I used to love 3 Colours Red I did. Back in 1997 when I was taking my first tentative fumblings with these weird new genres such as "indie" and "metal" (note: post-rock didn't exist back in those days.
Mr. Shiraz have everything you could possibly want in a band: a very well polished horn section, a mean looking drummer, hyper-singers (including an all singing all dancing version of Bez on acid) walking bass and funky guitar.
The Scaramanga Six: Strike! Up the Band
Strike! Up the Band is a monster. The 13 songs, the two videos and the SIX SIX SIX count-in absolutely guarantee one hell of a good mood.
With the 'forgotton' album scheduled for release soon, its about time that this interview found its way into press...
Student feeding-ground by day, 'The Refectory' at Leeds University Union may not seem like the obvious location for a night of top musical entertainment, but I was certainly impressed by the sound and light show at the excellent Placebo gig here this time last year.

The latest You Are Invited all-dayer in Huddersfield may be the last unless some benevolent soul steps forward and offers to support the event.
A hop skip and a jump into the next county and you will find these suave lads, who go by the name Ejectorseat.
"Left foot, motion! Right foot, stand still! I don't need these words!" No, you do not, Sam Robson. You do these things with your legs involuntarily, as though possessed by a more sexually-frustrated John Travolta, only sporting a more scruffy nature of clothing, jeans dripping with condensation, an explosion of hair being thrown around your noggin.
"I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor", Arctic Monkeys' second single and first full-scale release, has shifted a rattling avalanche of around 33,000 copies thus far whilst simultaneously thrusting a very sharp, very painful spear labelled "Reality Check" up the rear end of the boring, apathetic public.
Lauren Strain caught up with Ali Whitton at Manchester's Dry Bar to look back on a busy 2005 for the songwriter, which included an appearance at Leeds Festival and saw the release of his "Kisses" and "Curses" EPs.
