Tigerbomb release their debut album "Not On My Mountain"

Leeds band Tigerbomb have released their debut album "Not On My Mountain", which can be obtained from the band through their website.

Yellow Stripe Nine to release new single on May 23rd...

Yellow Strip Nine have chosen "One Look (It's Love!)" as their third single for Decadent Recordings. The three-track single will include "The Greatest Game" and brand new song "I'll Sing With All My Heart".

4 Letter Holiday to release a new CD in February

4 Letter Holiday's new CD release at the end of February marks the pinnacle of the busiest period in the band's history.

Seven Hours: Seven Hours EP

"Nowhere to Hide" is a clanging bluesified rock piledriver with Americano vocal affectation in the style of Pub Rock, but no particular song.

Vib Gyor @ HiFi Club

For me the Tea Time Shuffle is both a blessing and a curse. The great thing is you get to see 5 decent bands and at the same time are provided with the opportunity to start drinking at 6pm.

Xi to release limited edition single on 21st October...

Leeds rock band Xi are to make their first official release for 3 years with the single Low to be released on their management's label Panama Records on 21st October.

Band Profile: Shatner

Guitar based pop music with its roots in late 70s punk-pop, but which has drawn comparison to a huge range of bands from the 60s to the present day. Expect layered harmonies, catchy three minute tunes and the city's best rhythm section.

The Noise: Cheap Thrills EP

Cheap Thrills was recorded at Sunnybank Studios in June of this year. Tracks are: "Run or Die", "Lesbian Pleasure", "Dirty USA", "Country Song" and "Salvation".

Mama Scuba @ The Vine

I have to admit that I wasn't really sure whether or not I wanted to see "Meet the Fockers", OK the first one was amusing but was there really enough mileage in the concept to spawn a sequel?

Pop Threat: Ingrained

It's about time Pop Threat released another single, something I've been waiting for quite a while. This time the band, following a recent line up shuffle, has released a limited 7" single on Squirrel Records.

FF'ers @ Leeds Festival 2008

FF'ers are confronted by the biggest crowd of the day. It's really hard to get up to the front, and in pretending to be important, with a bag and an officious clipboard I attract the attention of two young fans who ask me who is about to play.

Bonsai Kittens @ Atrium

The regular Tiny Cat nights at the Atrium have been going long enough now for them to be considered part of the Leodensian gigging furniture.

Herbert: Score

Astonishingly, this is Matthew Herbert's third full-length release in little over twelve months. After last years acclaimed soulful pop masterpiece 'Scale' and the re-released old school house/techno package '100lbs', Herbert exercises his musical versatility once more with seventeen multi-genre compositions for the big screen.

The Wedding Present @ LMUSU

A return to the city he calls home, for David Gedge, in his most famous incarnation, this was always going to be an emotional affair and a sweep through a 20 year-old back catalogue proved to be just that.

Wild Beasts @ Faversham

Sometimes as a 'reviewer' you grope around in your big bag o' references and with rising sense of panic realise Gang of Four just isn't it this time and in those rare instances it's best just to hold your hands up and say where the fuck did that come from?

The Bilderberg Group: s/t

One of Leeds most promising bands of recent years have delivered their second album in order to broaden our education.

Orka @ Joseph's Well

It's a chilly Saturday night, and my feet have past the point of freezing. Upon reflection, acid pink sling-backs are unsuitable for an occasion where any amount of walking is required.

iLiKETRAiNS @ HiFi Club

The Hi Fi Club is nicely full. Not heaving. Nicely full. It's a Friday, and the young and beautiful of Leeds have come out.

Gramercy Arms: s/t

Whilst it would be unduly dismissive to deny that this album has its moments, the overall effect is one of pastiche without due injection of fresh ideas.

Clayhill: One Nerve

While others are off on tour supporting Beth Orton in the U.S we British Lizards are stuck here to take the heat.

Duels @ HiFi Club

Five bands, three hundred words, no time for an introduction. Go. Tonight's Tea Time Shuffle was opened by current Bright Young Things, Behaviour.

iLiKETRAiNS @ HiFi Club

Once again, it's that time of the month (no, not that one) but the one in which the whole of Leeds descends on the small but perfectly formed Hi-Fi club for the biggest (and longest) party in town.

Grimper: Straight out with the Worcesters

Grimper are very nearly wonderful. "Straight out with the Worcesters" is a private labour of much love and great ambition.

Plastic Fuzz @ HiFi Club

This was my first Tea Time Shuffle for some time, and I was excited to be down reviewing a band I actually discovered through LMS - Plastic Fuzz.

Being 747 @ HiFi Club

Ahhh, you can't beat a bit of a shuffle in the late afternoon, and this month Mr. Rob Paul Chapman's showcase again failed to disappoint.

Patrick Wolf: The Magic Position

"They send you off to hell in gasoline drawers and say 'Hey, while you're there, could you bring me back a chicken chow mein?'" Not one of mine, sadly, but of the eminently quotable Tom Waits.

Interview: The Breech

High up in the 7th floor apartment of The Breech's keyboard player Davoc, overlooking the streets and at the weird and wonderful architecture of Leeds buildings it seems an appropriate place to talk about the state of the Leeds music scene, and more importantly the burgeoning and healthy looking future of The Breech.

Kid iD: Please Tell Your Friends

I like the cut of Mr. Pelleymounter's jib. Firstly, he's got a pretty fantastical last name. Secondly, his sleeve notes include the words, "If you like this music then feel free to copy, rip, burn and pass it on to as many people as you like." This is an important lesson for unsigned bands; just get your music out there.

The Fall @ Irish Centre

A last-minute change of plan means that I'm reviewing this gig rather than your usual correspondent. And the fact that bus timetables are a rough guide rather than an actual indication of when your bus might arrive mean that by the time I'm inside a packed venue with de-misted spectacles and thawed ears (my, it was cold at that bus stop), Piskie Sits are well into their stride.

Oceansize @ Faversham

Experiencing the sunshine mixed with alcohol and excessive loud noise is never good for the body after your stomach's feeling turgid from the day before.

Mucky Sailor @ Milo

Impossibly big-mouthed Richard Archer of chart-hugging Staines chancers Hard-Fi props the bar up and gazes amenably into the eyes of his young paramour, trying hard not to notice being noticed and no doubt savouring the relaxed Thursday night vibrations and eclectic vinyl selections of the Chicken Shack DJs.

This Et Al @ LMUSU

So here we have an "unsigned band showcase". Call me bitter, and even counter productive in the encouragement of fledgling bands but I hate these things.

Interview: Elliot Minor

Daniel Powell talks to York's Elliot Minor as they begin their tour at Leeds' Cockpit venue.

four day Hombre @ HiFi Club

The monthly TTS, or the Tea Time Shuffle, could soon become an institution. It's Friday, it's 6 o'clock, the Hi-Fi bar is well and truly open and 3 and a half of Leeds finest bands are playing before your increasingly Southern Comforted eyes and all for just a fiver.

Xi @ Snooty Fox (Wakefield)

Hidden behind a Wakefield office block lies the Snooty Fox. After a chance meeting with Xi, we get directions to the venue, which is to be part of Xi's whirlwind tour of the Mainland's shores.

Interview: iLiKETRAiNS

In the busy world of the Leeds Music Scene, there's always a few bands who slip quietly into the main arena. iLiKETRAiNS are one of these bands, playing their sometimes gentle, sometimes fierce, but always beautiful take on post rock theatrics.

Liars @ Cockpit

The Blood Brothers are skinny, polite and nervous. When they perform however, a fairytale nightmare is cast upon the room, melancholy, bitter, estranged from reality and reeling with sarcastic vitriol.

Of Montreal @ Faversham

With the joyless chore of the Christmas shopping rush just a fortnight away, prepare yourself for the inevitable inaccuracies of every glossy music publication's conveniently-timed 'Best of 2005' lists, (it being an historical fact that record companies only release Greatest Hits packages in December).

Napoleon IIIrd @ HiFi Club

Even if he is unable to attend - by dint of incarceration, far-flung vacation or other indisposition - the embedded chronological awareness of any Leeds gig-goer will tell him at this juncture (6pm on the first Friday of the month) that he should be nestling within the subterranean catacombs of the Hi-Fi Club.

Oceansize @ Faversham

The memories are hazy, the order of events may not be quite right but I know two things; beer flows freely in The Fav and amazingly it didn't rain, or at least certainly not enough to water down my Sol or to kill any of the musicians on stage.

Design @ Leeds Town Hall

The annual Bright Young Things showcase has been very much like a 'Kinder Surprise' over the last few years - yes you may look back fondly enough, but you'd rather have a 'Fizzy Cola Bottle' (Futuresound competition) or even a 'Flying Saucer' (local band nite at Joseph's Well) because, at the end of the day, while the 'Kinder Egg' promises much, open it up and a crappy toy that you play with for five minutes and then lose down the back of the sofa is all that confronts you.

Stateless @ HiFi Club

"Left foot, motion! Right foot, stand still! I don't need these words!" No, you do not, Sam Robson. You do these things with your legs involuntarily, as though possessed by a more sexually-frustrated John Travolta, only sporting a more scruffy nature of clothing, jeans dripping with condensation, an explosion of hair being thrown around your noggin.
