"Stop The Clock" introduces us to Blind Jackson with a whiny little guitar riff that intermittently returns.

The Wave Pictures: Just Like A Drummer

Following on swiftly from the release of their 13 track album "Instant Coffee Baby" The Wave Pictures are releasing a 6 track EP "Just Like a Drummer" that includes 5 new tracks as well as the title track, so they're obviously not short on material.

Mogwai: Travel Is Dangerous

This five track EP from Glaswegian post rockers Mogwai is a more competent than enthralling release, which is of little surprise when there are no new tracks present.

It's a bit difficult to review an EP when the record company only send you one track from it, but when it's one track that wears down the play button they may be forgiven.

Futures is the first single to be released from Zero 7's new album "The Garden" which is set to be released in May.

Blowback: Bad Hair Day

Knowing very little about the band Blowback, the CD went straight on and instantly I was given the (good) impression that the CD was going to kick ass, an American lo-fi sub-pop post-punk and seriously rocking affair, from the guitar intro to the introduction of drums and bass - then the vocals kicked in, the tempo lowered and I thought "Hmmmmm".

Duels to release their "Once in the Night" EP in October

Duels have this week announced the release of a new limited edition four-track EP. A specially-packaged companion to The Slow Build EP the new EP - titled "Once in the Night EP" - will feature the title track (from their album The Bright Lights And What I Should Have Learned) along with three brand new songs: "Half Wrong, Half Right", "I, Mosquito" and "Sisters".

Farming Incident: What can you do with a pig's head and sheep's brains?

Farming Incident are disturbing. Their three track CD demo is not only titled "What can you do with a pig's head and sheep's brains?", a title to get any decent human being worried about what they are about to encounter, but their opening track Rostov begins with the lyrics "When I was a boy, My father used to give me cigarettes, Then beat me up for smoking, When I was a boy, I used to torture my pets".

I went to The Vine once in hope to see these guys play but unfortunately when I arrived they had finished and I was treated to this God-awful electro band - but finally I am happy to hear some of Vatican Jet's material.

BigBlu have a talent for melody. Their music is simple, evocative, tuneful and very radio-friendly. The mood is wistful and yearning.

This pleasant enough collection of four tracks gambols earnestly along, but is ever so slightly guilty of failing to engage the listener.

Xi are bunkered deep down on the dark side. They're Tommy Vance Jedi, in spangled cowls, trailing phosphorescent axes as if the Heavy Meal Ancestors still strode the Earth.

Qualia: Untitled

Qualia are Leeds University students Gez (vocals and guitar) and Dan (keyboard and backing vocals), who formed a musical partnership just over a year ago and have already attracted substantial record label interest.

Solace: Wasted Youth

Solace's accompanying letter tells me immediately a lot about what I should expect from this CD... I know, I know, never judge a book and all that but I just hope that if this goes to record companies they try some other tactic than scrawled biro.

Playing the two-track Weeve demo CD brings back some memories, mainly images of bands such as Soundgarden, Bush or Pearl Jam vocals/structure but with a typically British indie-guitar style.

The Pigeon Detectives: Wait For Me

The Pigeon Detectives have been waiting to unleash this album on the globe, and rightly so. 'Wait For Me', released on label Dance To The Radio, clearly puts the five-piece on the map as more than just friends of the Kaiser Chiefs.

This CD is bloody amazing! I was given this when we had just played a storming set at Josephs Well. I had the original "Wow Signal" EP from VISA, which I acquired from the Blue Star gig a couple of months ago.

Situationists: This City Holds Us All EP

Formed in their native Sheffield in 2006, Situationists have received much critical acclaim prior to this debut EP, notably from Radio 1's Steve Lamacq and XFM's John Kennedy.

The Reverse: A Clean Incision

Rhode Island: Happy Birthday EP

The first thing I noticed when this CD started playing was that ... it was amazing! I'm not just saying that to avoid being harsh to the band (which I have noticed happens too much), this EP is truly incredible.

Lancaster's Death in Public's release 'Start a Fight' is an inventive three-track disc. The title track is full of energy and enthusiasm and sets the tone for the rest of disc.

Misled Vision: Bitter Kiss

The CD cover is black and the font looks rather gothic so I am not expecting any summery pop as I slip Misled Vision's demo into the tray.

Silvertin: Signs

This two track sampler from Silvertin reveals a fondness for a sound that is quickly growing "old fashioned".

The Hightones: The Attic Tapes

Oh yeah baby, bring back that rock and roll! Only - if they could play and sing that would be great, but with out of tune vocals and guitars throughout I must say that from listening to this first track "Till The Night Is Through" I am NOT impressed.

Mod's back and comes in the capable hands of Leeds sharply cut Uptight. This four track EP is a gem of slicing guitar and nasal growling vocals.
