Unexploded Shells: Made In The Same City As You
It's been a lean time for music lately. I've been impressed by stuff, but hardly bowled over at the same time.
What happens when reviewers get together to form their own band? Do they right the wrongs of all the mountains of dross they have had to wade through in their time?
Unexploded Shells: Hexthorpe 1
A posthumous tribute, even if there is the occasional mediumistic tremor on Myspace. Neither too slick nor too coltish, Unexploded Shells' CD revives an old-fashioned tension in the listener over whether the band will make it to the other end of the performance tightrope without dropping off and landing on the self-destruct button.
Firstly I would like to begin by giving the woman on the end of the West Yorkshire Metro enquiries line a beating with a stick for knowing nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, about how to get anywhere in Leeds and particularly anywhere involving bus routes 51, 51a, 52, 52a, 53, 56, 74 and 95.
I've always liked The Primrose as one of Leeds' smaller music venues and I have always managed to catch some good bands there, tonight was no exception.
Once again, it's that time of the month (no, not that one) but the one in which the whole of Leeds descends on the small but perfectly formed Hi-Fi club for the biggest (and longest) party in town.
I had not heard any of these bands before the day of the gig, so I wasn't really sure what to expect.

The Bone is 1 year old today. No longer sucking at the mother's teat of gig promotion, it's now old enough and daft enough to stand on its own 2 feet.
